Biography:
Cory Simmons is a native Floridian who has spent his legal career distinguishing himself through excellence. He graduated from Florida State University with two bachelor’s degrees in 2002 and later attended Florida Coastal School of Law where he actively participated in Coastal’s acclaimed Moot Court and Mock Trial programs. Mr. Simmons attained national recognition when he won a national Moot Court championship in Chicago in 2005 and was named the Best Oralist in the 2006 Prince Evidence Competition in New York City.
After graduating from law school with honors and an advanced certification in legal research and writing, Mr. Simmons became an Assistant State Attorney where he prosecuted a wide range of crimes including misdemeanors, juvenile offenses, and felonies. While working as a prosecutor, he successfully conducted numerous hearings, jury trials, and appeals. After litigating everything from DUIs to sex crimes and armed robberies, Mr. Simmons left the Office of the State Attorney with extensive trial and appellate experience and now works with Robert Shafer & Associates. His areas of practice are criminal defense, civil forfeitures, and administrative proceedings before hearing officers.
